Chris Sullivan is a multi-instrumentalist, performer and educator specialising in Sax, Clarinet and Flute. Born on the Wirral, Chris developed his passion for music and performance from the age of eight years old. He graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with First Class Honours and completed a Masters in Music Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music. Chris has also furthered his performance abilities by studying at Il Conservatorio di 'Giuseppe Verdi' di Milano and Metropolitana, Lisboa. Chris has performed at venues across Europe and has premiered works at Teatro Ibérico Lisboa, The Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and Blackheath Hall, London.
Chris began his music studies with Prof. Christopher Swann and Dr. Valerie Warr, doubling on saxophone and clarinet.
During this time, he performed in small ensemble and orchestral events in the Merseyside, Cheshire and Manchester areas including the 'Liverpool Motzart Orchestra' and 'L'Orchestra Dell'Arte'.
At Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance Chris studied under Prof. Gerard McChrystal, Prof. Melanie Henry and Prof. Hale Hambleton graduating with a First Class Honours degree.
He spent 12 months studying and performing at Il Conservatorio di 'Giuseppe Verdi' di Milano, one of Italy's leading music conservatoires, under Prof. Mario Marzi, and the Metropolitana, Lisboa with Prof. João Pedro Silva.
Chris graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with a Masters in Music Performance under renowned saxophonists Prof. Rob Buckland, Prof. Carl Raven and Prof. Andy Scott
Chris also sought to further his wider knowledge of classical, popular music and jazz in master classes with professional musicians such as John Harle, Kyle Horch, Mike Hall and Pete Long.
Chris' orchestral performances include Bizet's L'arlésienne Suite, Moussorgsky/Ravel's Tableaux d'une exposition, Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances & Shostakovich's Jazz Suites 1 & 2, performing at venues across Europe. Chris recently had the opportunity to perform as a soloist in Glazunov's Saxophone Concerto with the Isle of Man Symphony Orchestra.
Although classically trained he has a wide interest in musical genre's. These include Big Band, performing at St. Georges Hall, Liverpool, The Crewe Lyceum, Alexander's Jazz Theatre, Chester.
He's played at other venues including the Wirral Music Festival and doubling in musical pit bands across the North West and the Isle of Man.
Aside from his classical background his repetoire includes Jazz, Pop and Blues with the occasional cheesy sax thrown in.
Chris is an innnovative and energetic saxophone and clarinet player displaying a natural flair for classical music with a strong interest in traditional music. His vibrant and energising performance brings colour to any piece, be it the rich mellow tones of a tenor sax or the uplifting sound of an alto sax. He originates from Cheshire, and is currently based on the Isle of Man.
